Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is the professional body for those engaged in logistics, transport and physical distribution -covering all sections of the industry; namely, land, sea, air and logistics, for both passengers and freight transportation. It was formed in United Kingdom in 1919 as the Institute of Transport and granted a Royal Charter in 1926. It was renamed as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in 2001.The Singapore Group was formed in 1971.This Group was converted into a Section in 1986 and to National Council in 1991.

Objectives

Recognition, Role & Membership of CILT, Singapore

Fellowship (FCILT), Chartered Membership (MCILT) and Associate Membership of CILT are widely recognised as the qualifications required for those involved in logistics and transport. Members of CILT are on the Boards of, or hold management posts in most major logistics and transport undertakings. Membership of CILT is encouraged by logistics and transport employers both in public and private sector, who regard acceptance into the CILT as an important step in advancing their professional careers.

For those who achieve full Chartered Membership, they are able to use the designatory letters MCILT for Member or FCILT for Fellow. This not only signifies Membership of a professional body, which has worldwide representation, it is also the mark of a very high standard of educational/professional achievement and practical experience in the logistics/transport industry.
